The
Bear Creek Greenway trail links the cities of Ashland, Talent, Phoenix,
Medford and Central Point with an 18.5 mile pedestrian and bicycle path.
Some sections of trail follow the creek and some parallel roadways
including I-5. The final link in the entire system is the connection
from the Medford Sports Park to Barnett Road.
This trail connection will
be completed in mid-late 2008 as part of the So. Medford Interchange
construction project.
The Greenway map illustrates trail access points, roads that cross the
trail, locations for parking and other public amenities.

The work of creating the Bear Creek Greenway began in 1973.
Since that
time, the local government partners of Jackson County, Central Point,
Medford, Phoenix, Talent, and Ashland have collaborated to set aside the
creek corridor and build paved bicycle/pedestrian paths. This same group
is working together to coordinate trail management.
The private non-profit Bear Creek Greenway Foundation has acted as a
friends organization over the years raising match money and producing
educational materials.
The private non-profit Bear Creek Greenway Equestrian Association maintains
two sections of horse trails: about 2.5 miles to the south from Lynn Newbry Park in Talent and about 2.5 miles to the north from Expo Park
(though construction replacing the Upton Road bridge will require the
horse trail to be closed possibly until 2009).
